Forum: GratefulDead Subject: That dickhead from last night...

...is back. I'll even be brief & everything.

I want to thank you all for making today a good one. It's been a suckpump of a few weeks & spontaneous unemployment would have made the last few days far more odious had it not been for the likes of y'all. ...I guess that whole "spontaneous unemployment" thing explains my recent spike in posts...one of the fringe bennies of a sudden surplus of time.

And finding the community going on here lately is a big part of what's been getting discussed of late in threads down below. To summarize the day's events for those of y'all who haven't had the chance to get through all the threads (and there've been some good ones today...), here goes:

The "Healing Grok" being discussed last night seems to have evolved into a "Healing Grok-a-thon," starting at noon (right coast time) & continuing until ????? Times as late as Sunday morning have been suggested. A good long Grok would also open up participation to those whose schedules might otherwise preclude them.

So far the nominated shows are: 9/20/70, 2/15/73, 10/29/77 & 2/18/71.

Obviously everything's open to discussion, suggestion, rebuttal, & input. That's sort of why I'm hinting so broadly at it...:)

And of course I'll be pestering you folks for a finalizing vote, say, Friday night...

It's been a good vibe kind of day around here today, the basis of what a lot of us are hoping will come out of whatever ends up happening Saturday. Sort of reminding ourselves why we ended up "here" in the first place and showing some solidarity.

Anyway...guess I screwed up that whole "being brief" thing...

Peace.

I am sorry for your situation, Mud, but do appreciate that you have turned it into more time with us...

I would like to suggest that if we have the 70 & 73 show more or less agreed upon, perhaps we should nominate one from the 80s to go with them? If we think three is all we should have...?

If that thinking makes sense, how about 9-18-87, a fav of some here (Dire, others?). If that just muddies the waters (no pun intended, Mud), then we can stick with the 3-4 from the 70s...that is fine too.

So, my wishy washy vote is "YES" to anything anyone decides in this respect. Just keep me posted.

I like the idea of an 80s Chinese New Year Grok.

Why not?

I vote the 77 show. Maybe a year most folks can agree on is a starting point and a totally different era than the last grok. Hope the employment picture changes to your liking sooner rather than later.

Good evening sir, sorry to hear of your current situation, may it improve quickly. As for Grok, all the suggestions are excellent and if it is turning into a marathon, let me throw in a more recent show not often mentioned, 11/24/79 Golden Hall. The SBD up here is outstanding and, well I could go on, but I have already submitted a review here: http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=89022.

As for today, I was most please to see that the mellowness continued even after I left in the afternoon. Nice to see we still got it, despite what some may say to the contrary.

PS
4/29/71 is sweet, playin the Ripple right now. Just got it per comments here of late and am not dissapointed. Great sound with equally huge performance. What's not to love?

Thanx for the support, guys...

As for me being a "dickhead," (there's plenty out there'll who'd agree...), I actually used that for these posts, given the circumstances that got me hanging the "first" thread, which was basically a response to Cush & SDH exchanges re:grokking kimbajed's 2/26/77 birthday/anniversary show. It seemed a dickhead thing to do, throwing folks' words back out to haunt them...
I'm actually an egomaniac in humility drag...

I would say humility is a drag in and of itself. Hubris forever, forever hubris!

That's why I've given up on "praying for humility..." It's usually an open door for life stickin it in & breakin it off... LOL!

True, not sure a true Asshole would so abuse himself. Straighten up or risk losing your membership!

Shit, sorry, I just endorsed what I was so happy NOT to see today. Ah, screw it, I think we've earned a little break.

I think all of these shows are great, and I understand that some people here don't like much from the 80's, but this list is lacking. Maybe not for this Grok but for another we could do a sort of evolution of the Dead. Not necesarrily a show from every year, but maybe from every time period, or specific runs (May 77).

If I had to suggest a show for this Grok, I'd pick 9/12/81. You have to have at least some later Dead, and if you want a good show, use this one. There's a great quality audience recording here, and the show is one of the best they ever played. http://www.archive.org/details/gd81-09-12.aud.wise.25317.shnf

I'm thinking of an 80's show for the February Grok... A Valentines, Mardi Gras or Chinese New Year. The original Grok concept was to do a show from the same day (or close to) in real time... Full Emergency Groks are a little different... On account of we've never done one yet.

Thanks for joining in too!
